This summer, five Columbus Force SC U16–U19 boys earned the opportunity to take their development to the next level through USL Academy. Through their hard work, leadership, commitment, and performances throughout the regular season, these players were identified for the opportunity to train in a highly competitive USL Academy environment in Cleveland. For our players, this was more than just another training opportunity. Coach Evan Wherley says: “Rayna has been an incredible asset to the USL-Youth group this year! Evan Wherley brings a strong combination of coaching education, youth development experience, and collegiate playing experience to our U13–U14 Boys program. Evan holds a USSF B License, played at Notre Dame College, and has coached with Westerville United, Barca Academy Columbus, and Columbus Force SC. After previously serving as our U10–U12 Boys Director, Evan now moves into the U13–U14 Boys Director role. His experience developing players at the younger ages gives him an understanding of the pathway that players are coming through, while his work with older players allows him to prepare them for the increased technical, tactical, physical, and mental demands of the U13–U14 game. His teams have achieved multiple State Cup Championships, two Regional Championships, and an EA National Quarterfinal appearance. Travis holds the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, NSCAA Level 1 Goalkeeper Diploma, NSCAA Advanced Technical Training Diploma, and an EE Playmaker Certificate through England Football Learning. His coaching background includes leadership roles with Barca Academy Columbus, Ohio Premier Upper Arlington, Worthington United, Crew Juniors, Triangle United, and the Olympic Development Program. He is also the Director and Owner of Shot-Stopper Goalkeeping Academy and played Division I soccer at Wright State University. That combination of advanced coaching education, collegiate playing experience, and technical and goalkeeper development expertise gives Travis a broad understanding of how players develop. At U13–U14, he can help players become more tactically intelligent, technically refined, and prepared for the increasing demands of high-level soccer. Jacob holds La Liga Methodology Level 3 and the United Soccer Coaches Urban Soccer Diploma and has held leadership roles with Westerville United, Barca Academy Columbus, Saints International Academy, and Newcomer Academy High School. Jacob also played at Spalding University, an NCAA Division III program. His extensive experience directing age groups and developing players gives him a strong understanding of what young athletes need at each stage of their journey. At U10–U12, that means helping players build the technical foundation, confidence, and soccer intelligence they need as they progress toward more advanced levels of the game. Lisa Saiben brings an exceptional coaching background to our U10–U12 Girls program. Before coaching with Classics Eagles and Columbus Force SC, Lisa led the Olentangy Liberty Girls Soccer program, where she was named the 2014 Conference Coach of the Year. Under her leadership, the 2014 Liberty Patriots made program history, winning a District Championship and advanced to the Sweet 16 (Regional Semifinals). Liberty was also ranked No. 1 in the region during the OHSAA playoffs that season. The team allowed just four goals all season, recording a 0.200 goals-against average. During her four-year tenure as Varsity Head Coach, Liberty posted a 45-19-10 record. That experience gives Lisa a tremendous understanding of what it takes to develop players from their foundational years into confident, intelligent, and competitive soccer players. At U10–U12, she can help players build the technical habits, confidence, decision-making, and competitive mentality that will prepare them for the next level.
